The start of the story
One spring day, a notice appeared on the old willow tree by the stream. In big letters it said: “The Great Bark Boat Race! Start at the willow, finish at the flat stone. Judge: Hootie the owl.” A crowd gathered under the willow right away. “I’m going to win!” shouted Spike the hedgehog, before anyone else could say a word. “First you have to build a boat,” laughed Rusty the fox. Croaky the frog, Toby the bear and Hoppy the bunny signed up straight away too.
