The start of the story
Beyond the pond rose a tall hill. From far away it looked like a giant pinecone, so everyone called it Pinecone Peak. At the very top grew an old pine tree, and they said you could see the whole forest from there. One sunny morning, Hootie the owl gathered her friends in the clearing. “Who’d like to go on an expedition to Pinecone Peak?” she asked. “Me!” cried Rusty the fox, Toby the bear and Croaky the frog all at once. Only Hoppy the bunny stayed silent, nervously nibbling the tip of his ear.
