The start of the story
Every evening, before Rusty the fox fell asleep, he said good night to the moon. The moon hung over the forest, round and bright as a big plate full of milk, and peeked into the den through the little window. “Good night, moon,” Rusty whispered, and the moon silvered the tips of his ears. But one evening Rusty noticed that a piece was missing from one side of the moon. “Did someone take a bite out of it?” he wondered anxiously. The next night even more was missing, and then more still, until all that was left was a thin silver sliver.
