The start of the story
Hootie the owl had a garden that looked quite ordinary. But only in the daytime. By day, it grew plain daisies, blue bellflowers, and red poppies. By the path stood a bench, a watering can, and a squeaky little gate. That afternoon, Rusty the fox, Toby the bear, and Spike the hedgehog were building a sandcastle there. “Give me the shovel!” Rusty called, holding out his paw. Spike wrinkled his nose and hid the shovel behind his back.
