The start of the story
At the edge of the meadow stood a tall old pole, and on top of it was a huge nest made of sticks. All summer long, Hoppy the bunny and Rusty the fox came here to watch the stork family: Mother, Father and three young storks. When they hatched, the chicks were white and fluffy, like cotton balls. Now they were almost grown up, only their beaks were still dark. Whenever they said hello, the storks clattered, quickly tapping their beaks together. “They hardly have any voice at all,” Rusty explained. “They talk by clattering.”
